Dallas, Texas

September 16-17, 2011

A group of about 60 members and guests attended the two-day CFA 2011 Annual Meeting on September 16 and 17 in Dallas, Texas. The Holiday Inn Express on LBJ Freeway was the perfect venue for our meeting, with a spacious meeting room and helpful staff.

Although we have been to Texas on three previous occasions: 1997 (Longview), 2001 (Longview again), and 2003 (Austin), this was our first time to meet in Dallas. Texas is full of Chandlers whose ancestors followed the migration route from Virginia through the Carolinas and the Deep South to Texas. Their descendants were happy to have the CFA back in Texas for the fourth time. Several new members joined the association.

The visiting and sharing times were lively, with some members making cousin connections for the first time, old friends and relations greeting each other, and researchers working hard to glean information from the CFA library and other resources. The CFA Lineages Database was put through its paces on Claudia’s computer, while Dick teleconferenced from British Columbia, Canada, to answer genealogy, lineage and DNA questions.

The members attending on Saturday posed for a group picture after the business meeting, and we kept Dick with us (see computer in center of photo) for the occasion. Click on photo to see a larger version, which will open in a new window. Close that window to return to this page.

Since Helen was unable to attend, members pitched in to welcome arrivals at the registration desk, with Linda Verges taking on many of Helen’s responsibilities. Thanks again, Linda!
Although members stayed busy researching on Friday, there was lots of laughter and hugging, especially when new connections were made.
Dick was busy most of Friday teleconferencing from British Columbia, Canada. He answered members’ questions about DNA, genealogy and the Lineages Database.
Although most members attended both days of the meeting, some members were able to attend only on Friday while others appeared on Saturday. All were warmly welcomed.
Some members made progress on their research, and there were a few surprises. A brick wall for one member was shattered when she met a member with a common ancestor. A member’s guest found a Chandler ancestor and joined the association!
